Graphene oxide has been extensively studied for a variety of applications as a result of its solution processing capabilities, rich surface chemistry, and facile reduction to reduced graphene oxide. The reduction process eliminates oxygen functional groups which in turn restores sp2 domains and conductivity of the material. Little is known regarding the mechanisms involved in the reduction process and the final products that evolve from the oxygen functional groups tethered to the surface. Here, we demonstrate the multifunctional properties of graphene oxide as an aqueous remediation agent.
