(394d) Reliance Energy R&D

Reliance industries is operating large scale refineries at its Jamnagar Manufacturing Complex. Reliance Industries has been continuously carrying out R&D work in Energy sector. We are at advance stage of implementation of Petcoke Gasification project at Jamnagar as value addition to Refinery and as a part of energy integration. Petcoke Gasification is carried out with entrained flow slagging Gasification technology.

Petcoke gasification is not a mature technology and a very few plants in the world are operating on 100% Petcoke. Therefore to understand the technology, Reliance has initiated an advance R&D projects in Petcoke Gasification mainly in the area of Slag Management, Petcoke Gasification Kinetics, Refractory Material Improvement in terms of life and alternate of Chrome Refractory.

Another area of research is recovery of V/Ni from Gasification Slag. Process has to be developed as there is no off-the- shelf Technology available for V/Ni recovery from Slag.

Reliance is also exploring next generation coal liquefaction technology and Bio conversion of syngas to higher hydrocarbons & petrochemicals.

Reliance scientists and technologist are engaged in indigenously developing Low Temperature & High Temperature PEM fuel cell.

Reliance is engaged with world class universities PSU, MIT, Frieberg, Kansas University to name a few working with us in field of Gasification, and environmentally beneficial technologies.

Reliance is carrying out research in the field of Bio-CBM i.e. bio-conversion of underground coal to methane, another potential breakthrough technology.

Another significant research is being carried out in the area of generating Oil from Algae (A2O).
