One of the methods to produce butadiene product in industry is oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of alkane or alkene. In this study, reaction mechanism and kinetics were developed for the production of butadiene through ODH over an transition metal catalyst. For this, the kinetic data was obtained from a small scaled adiabatic reactor in the temperature range of 350 °C - 450 °C. Furthermore, deactivation behaviors of catalyst were studied under abnormal condition to investigate the impact of operating condition on catalyst life. Kinetic parameters were fitted against experiment data, using a linear method and computer curve-fitting technique. Integral experiment data was used to validate the proposed kinetic model. Lastly, various design and operating parameters were considred for the design of catalytic reactors (i.e. change of reaction temperature, feed composition, and residence time).
