The industrial world is primed for digitization and General Electric is one of he companies leading the application of Internet of Things to the manufacturing environment. Advanced software is available that provides access to secure industrial strength cloud environment for different machine data to be oaded in a secure environment for analytics to be applied for efficiency in factories of the future. The industrial Internet (HOT) will also apply artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augumented reality in new manufacturing as well as other uses like the control of home appliances. This paper will focus on the opportunities for chemical engineers to lead these innovations from process control to novel IoT sensors development, and the need for advanced materials to enable transformational changes in the Internet of Things platform.
