Biomass Anaeorobic Convertion Technology Development

Authors:
Base on the demands for environmental protection, energy security and modern agriculture development, with drawing on experiences of vigorously developing anaerobic biomass conversion from developed countries, innovative research on high efficient anaerobic conversion technologies has been conducted by Biomass Bio-chemical Conversion Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Sciences Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion.

In recent years, our Laboratory has undertaken more than 30 projects funded by the National Science & Technology Program, National High Technology Research and Development Program, National Natural Science Foundation, National Science & Technology Pillar Program, Provincial and Ministerial Science & Technology Programs and also programs supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences and corporations, focusing on bio-chemical pretreatments of lignocellulosic materials, nutrient balancing regulation base on complementary characteristics of substrates, high concentration co-digestion of multi-feedstock, two-stage continuous desulfuration, treatments of industrial waste (Cassava starch Dreg, Molasses Alcohol Wastewater etc.). Technologies and reactors for breeding/cultivation/pretreatment/anaerobic digestion of energy grassesfermentable organics extraction from municipal solid wastes with multiple impurities, two-phase& three-stage anaerobic digestion, combined oil-gas-fertilizer production from food waste have been developed base on our research; integrated technological system for high-efficient, continuous and stable production of biogas from organic wastes has been established. Maximum organic loading rates of 8-10 kgVS/(m3·d), highest solid concentration of 20% as well as stable operation can be achieved within the system; the best performance results of 75% methane content, 89% volatile solid removal rate, 70% energy conversion rate and 45% lignin removal rate have be obtained; the biogas production cost in this system can be lower than 0.5 yuan/m3. The international leading position of this achievement has been appraised based on the aggregate technology and economic indicators, and it has won the First Award of the Science and Technology Progress of Guangdong Province and Third Award of Energy Science and Technology Progress.

The aim of this report is to systematically introduce our achievement, and we are looking forward to cooperation on relevant research and application with domestic and foreign organizations. This work is funded by national high-tech development programs(No.KFJ-EW-STS-138, KGZD-EW-304-1, 2012AA101802 etc..)
