Nanofibers have created enormous opportunities and challenges for the textile and apparel industry, moreover the innovative methods for dyeing of nanofibers have recently gained more attention. Electrospun cellulose nanofibers are increasing significant interest in textile industry in view of its incomparable properties. However, the dyeing of nanofibers faces problem of lower color yield due to the higher surface area of nanofibers. In this study electrospun cellulose nanofiber dyed with using cold pad batch dyeing, a well-known and ecofriendly method of dyeing for cotton base fibers. The dyeing of cellulose nanofibers was carried out with CI Reactive Violet 5 by conventional and ultrasonic (US) method. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to investigate morphology and chemical structure of electrospun cellulose nanofibers before and after dyeing and the color strength (K/S value) and color fastness of dyed nanofibers also assessed.

The results indicates that the use of ultrasonic energy not only shortens the batching time but the color strength (K/S ),color fixation and color fastness also considerably increased ,the K/S value of dyed samples enhanced around 5-8% compared with conventional method. Although, washing fastness of sample increased up to 25%, but, color fastness to light was the same as conventional method.

  The results proved that, the morphology of dyed cellulose nanofibers with both dyeing method were smooth with structural uniformity and remained unaffected after being dyed.
