(492a) The U.S. Department of Energy's R&D Program for Carbon Use and Reuse

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energyâ??s National Energy Technology Laboratory has an active carbon capture and storage (CCS) program.  The goal of the Carbon Use and Reuse Focus Area is to identify and develop a suite of technologies to beneficially use CO₂ to produce useful products that can generate revenue to offset capture costs associated with CCS implementation. Identification of candidate chemistries and economically feasible approaches that utilize large amounts of CO₂ as a feedstock for high-demand product is very challenging while also ensuring that the overall process has a smaller greenhouse gas footprint that traditional pathways.
