(17f) Chemistry and Engineering of Energy, Environment, and Health

Wicked challenges, such as providing for safe available water, ensuring clean-sustainable energy, and providing for health solutions will require STEM, arts, leadership, and chemistry based solutions! My goal is to provide for progressive education and research via fundamental chemistry and engineering sciences to prepare future generations to solve grand challenges and explore multidisciplinary unknowns with holistic consciousness. To provide for SMART experiential learning, I have developed two teaching tools that can be applied in “choose your own experience” fashion (Jensen 2016, Jensen 2016A). Applied environmental research (Jensen and Müeller 2015, Jensen and Gujarathi 2015), energy research (Jensen et al. 2013, Jensen and Lewinski), and Android development (Jensen 2015) contributed to my increasing interest in nanotechnology and nanoinformatics. Synthesis and the evaluation of nanoscale features are state of the art areas of scientific inquiry for the fields of renewable chemicals-fuels, catalysis, medicine and composites to name a few. Nanoinformatics integrates information technology and big data science for multidisciplinary theoretical study and can be used in coordination with laboratory results to provide for layers of validation (e.g., methods, applications, complex computational processes).
