Nanotechnology is gaining an increasing interest and application in the pharmaceutical industry. In particular nanoparticles and nanocarriers can help overcome shortcomings related to insufficient water solubility, low dissolution rate and poor permeability. Additional benefits of nanocarriers include target delivery to specific locations in the gastrointestinal tract, enhanced permeability via transcytosis and enhanced delivery of macromolecules. Further, nanocarriers provide a much enhanced target specificity over traditional drug delivery means which represents a great hope for improving chemotherapy treatment. This session will focus on recent advances in synthesis and engineering of nanomaterials for enhanced drug delivery and patient treatment and the development of their manufacturing processes.
