(97c) Process Safety Education Framework for Multidisciplinary Engineering Programmes

Authors

The rise in multidisciplinary engineering education across universities in the developed countries is significantly redefining approaches to teaching and learning. Safety education is a multidisciplinary subject linked directly to most engineering and science related undergraduate courses. With increasing significance in engineering degree courses, it has been particularly identified with Chemical, Process, and Petroleum Engineering related disciplines owing to the nature of associated hazards. This study provides a generic framework for adequate inclusions of process safety elements into the multidisciplinary engineering and science curriculum. The process safety elements are to be developed based on proposed Cogex framework integrated with interdisicplinary learning case studies. Safety education framework like this becomes necessary for an early exposure to core safety concerns and build up of cognitive understanding of work place practices as they relate to more complex engineering processes.
