(716a) Integrating CO2 Capture with Steam-Reforming Reactions

Authors

Liu, W. - Presenter, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

CO2 capture by carbonation is an exothermic reaction, while CO2 generation by steam-reforming of hydrocarbons or oils is endothermic. Capturing CO2 under the reforming conditions does not only shift the thermodynamic equilibrium toward completion but also mitigates the heat transfer issue. In this presentation, research results reported in the literature will be reviewed to delineate the progress and remaining challenges. The recent development of novel sorbents suitable for in-situ capture applications will be reported, and its application to hydrogen production from bio-oil will be discussed.
