International Collaborations III:

Bioprocess engineering is one of the growing Hi-tech fields of research and considered as important components for the growth of industrial biotechnology sector. This types of industries are classified under RD based Hi-tech industries and thus contribute directly to the growth of the country’s knowledge based economy. For many years, bioprocess engineering and chemical engineering are part of the main curriculum of most of engineering faculties. However, based on many industries feedback, the technical skills needed are still not available and graduates from this filed still need further training to involve in industrial activities. Therefore, IBD developed a unique model for academic-industry collaborative framework for concomitant development of research and human capital for the industrial projects. This model is based on the integration of post-graduate and undergraduate students as full functional part and main driver of the project. Students involve as team member in industrially sponsored project which help them to understand the nature of product development/design in industrial perspective and also to be trained with industrial culture. In this context, the joint-industrial projects are considered as platform for applied technology teaching tool based on real business and market needs. Students also in this stage are given the opportunity to work closely with industry and business experts to acquire multidimensional business components for transformation of knowledge to tangible products. Students before finishing their post-graduate study are usually hired by the company who sponsor their project or by other companies. Through this model we achieved zero% unemployment among our postgraduate students during the last few years.
