A series of Ni/La2O3-CaO catalyst coupling with absorbent were developed by sol-gel combustion synthesis for sorption enhanced steam reforming of acetic acid. Ni/La2O3-CaO (10, 15, 20 and 25wt% NiO) were characterized through N2 physisorption, X-ray diffraction, SEM-EDX and XPS. Effect of reaction temperature, ratio of H2O to HAC, WHSV, nickel loading and cycles on performance of Ni-La2O3/CaO catalyst were tested in fixed reactor and Ni/La2O3-CaO with nickel loading of 15 wt% performs high activity under 650 ºC, 1atm, H2O/HAC of 3, WHSV of 0.6316 g-acetic acid/g-catalyst. After first cycle, 15 wt% Ni/La2O3-CaO reached hyrogen yield of 97.9% and H2 content of 88.3%(dry basis). After 10 cycles, H2 content of gas products still stays 89.0% and hydrogen yield reduce to 86.4%. Control of Ni content of the catalyst can reduce CH4 selectivity while too much Ni content not only droped CaO content off but also decreased nickel dispersion in the catalyst.
