Circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustion technology has been widely applied in coal-fired power generation all over the world. It provides high combustion efficiency, low environmental pollution and good fuel flexibility. Large scale CFB boiler with large thermal capacity and high steam pressure can further improve the process efficiency and reduce the pollution emission. In this research, CFD simulation based on computational particle fluid dynamic (CPFD) is used to investigate the gas-solids flows in large-scale circulating fluidized beds (CFB) with multi-cyclones. The simulation results for different fluidized bed systems, i.e. circular combustion chamber with single cyclone, rectangular chamber with four cyclones, rectangular chamber with six cyclones and annular shape chamber with six cyclones, are given and compared. The flow hydrodynamics behavior is given and analyzed based on CPFD simulation. Key parameters including pressure and solids mass flux at the outlets are given and compared with experimental results. The CPFD simulation result gives valuable information for the optimum design for large-scale fluidized beds.
