In this work, the technique to manipulate the magnetic beads on the centrifugal platform is presented.  Magnetic beads have been widely used in bioassays for their advantages in increasing the surface to volume ratio and improving the assay conversion by their mobility.  They have been used to promote the mixing efficiency and the antibody-carriers in immunoassays on the centrifugal platform.  However, an in-depth study which characterizes the interaction of magnet to magnet and magnet to magnetic beads was not available.  Therefore, in this work, we are aiming to develop a working principle to manipulate the magnetic beads, which can also be used as the tool for microfluidic designs.  Experiments were conducted to quantify the effective range for the magnet to magnet and magnet to magnetic beads attractions under various rotational speeds.  A design principle, which was derived from the data above, was used in designing the fluidic functions for incubation and washing procedures in a disk-based immunoassays.
