(306b) Stacked SnS2/Graphene Nanocomposites with High Li+ Storage Capacity

There is strong recent interest in using SnS2/graphene composites for reversible Li+ storage. While SnS2 and graphene are 2D nanomaterials; many of the composites reported thus far have a random 3D structure. We prepared a stacked SnS2/graphene nanocomposite which could retain most of the properties associated with the original 2D nanomaterials and promote the reversible storage of Li+ via the conversion reaction (SnS2+4Li++4e-→Sn+2Li2S). Contrary to the prevailing view that the conversion reaction is irreversible, we will show that reversibility as high as 87.5% is attainable through careful materials design. The increased reversibility also imparted to this composite specific capacity, capacity retention and rate performance which surpassed previously reported SnS2/graphene composites measured under the same conditions.
