The steam co-gasification of biomass and coal combined heat and power (CHP) process is designed and modeled in ASPEN Plus. The effects of the two different biomasses (raw wood and torrefied wood) on the co-gasification behavior are investigated based on energy and exergy efficiency analyses. Meanwhile, the impact of CO2 utilization on system performance is also conducted. Through the specific optimization algorithm for system energy and exergy efficiency, the optimum operating conditions for different biomass blending ratios (BBRs) are obtained. Finally, the waste heat recovery for power generation is added into the proposed system for enchaining the net system efficiency.

Keywords: Co-gasification; Torrefaction; Optimization; CO2 utilization; Energy and Exergy.
