(188c) Capturing Carbon Dioxide with a Green Focus

A unique collaboration between the Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (APCI) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) has resulted in the design and implementation of an innovative process to capture CO2 at the APCI Port Arthur Facility. The CO2 is captured, via a Vacuum Swing Adsorption process, from a Syngas stream generated in conjunction with the production of hydrogen by means of steam methane reforming. The captured CO2 is purified, dried, compressed, and transported via pipeline to Denbury Resources where it is utilized in the process of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). As of April 2014 over 1.35MM tonnes of CO2 have been delivered to the customer from the APCI Port Arthur facility.
