(676a) Safe Scale-up of Energetic Processes: Recent Case Studies

The safe scale-up of energetic materials requires a rigorous approach to reaction hazard characterization and criticality assessment. Several recent cases where the thermal hazard criticality assessment (based on reaction calorimetry, ARC, ARSST data and resulting heat flow, MTSR,and TD24) required a process redesign or modification to safely scale-up.  Our approach to process safety and details related to redesign and safe scale-up of these examples will be discussed.
