(613f) REU on Engineered Bioactive Interfaces and Devices at the University of Kentucky

For the past six year, the University of Kentucky has offered an NSF REU Program focusing on Engineered Bioactive Interfaces and Devices.   This multidisciplinary program provides rising juniors and seniors with the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary research with faculty from the College of Pharmacy, Department of Chemistry and Engineering.    To ensure a multidisciplinary experience, each REU student is assigned two advisors from separate disciplines.   The program goes beyond research in the laboratory and includes a number of technical workshops, panel discussions and seminars related to teamwork, intellectual property development, communication skills and what to expect from graduate school.   The students are assigned a graduate student who serves as a mentor to the REU students during the 10-week program.    The program ends with a poster competition and awards banquet.   Best practices and assessment results over the past 6 years will be presented.
