We are in an era, where environmental concerns have become increasingly prevalent. Increase in the CO2 concentration widely regarded as a key factor for the global climate pattern shift. Literature reports reveal that installation of currently used amine sorbents in coal gasification plants decreases the plant efficiency by 30%. We have been developing CaO based sorbents for high temperature CO2 capture for last decade. Our flame synthesized doped Calcium-based novel refractory sorbents have shown excellent performance in CO2 adsorption. In our previous study we have synthesized Ca/Zr (10:5) sorbents by different synthesis methods. Among the various sorbents, the Ca/Zr sorbent synthesized by sol-gel method exhibits excellent adsorption capacity and remarkable multi-cycle stability until 1200 cycles. The present study mainly aimed at synthesizing various Ca/Zr based sorbents by sol-gel method by varying the ratio between Ca and Zr. Also, in our previous studies the Ca/Al (10:3) sorbent exhibits better adsorption capacity compared to Ca/Zr (10:3) sample. The present also aimed at synthesizing various Ca/Al sorbents by flame spray pyrolysis method by varying the molar ratio between Ca and Al. The sorbents were characterized by BET, XRD, SEM and TEM techniques. CO2 capture experiments were performed in a TGA at 700 oC. These interesting findings will be discussed in the presentation.
