(373c) Particle Mobility Near a Slip Planar Surface

The no-slip boundary condition has been recently questioned for flows in nanoscale channels, where partial slip is suggested by experimental measurements. Such partial slip would, in principle, affect the motion of suspended particles under nanoscale confinement, a situation which may lead to deviation from the expectations of particle diffusion near confining walls. Alternatively, monitoring the diffusion of small particles under nanoscale confinement could provide a mechanism to study the existence and magnitude of hydrodynamic slip in nanoscale channels. An analysis of the perturbation flow due to a small particle near a wall with partial hydrodynamic slip will be presented. The image system solution for a point force close to a planar slip boundary was obtained, as a direct extension of the analysis due to J. R. Blake (1971) for a boundary with a no slip boundary condition. Results for the grand mobility matrix as a function of particle position and Knudsen number will be presented.
