Recruiting the right board members at the right time is critically important to the success of a start-up firm.  The form and function of the three types of boards will be presented, and the roles of the board members will be discussed.  Innovative technology firms have unique aspects that require special attention to the makeup of the technical advisory board.  These aspects will be highlighted and practical advice on how to find these mentors and keep them engaged will be offered.  Several methods and typical values for compensation for board members will be presented.  A standard agreement form will also be discussed, and resources for further learning will be offered.
