Home laundry process results in among the largest water and energy consumption annually on our planet. The past decade has experienced a rapid pace of green innovations in both durable and consumable cleaning products, many of which are delivering improved consumer benefits as well. This presentation will start off by discussing the water and energy decrease trends within laundry appliances over the past two decades and their impact on the environment. A deeper dive into a few of the more impactful technologies that has enabled this progress will be presented including sensing technologies timed dispensing of cleaning additives, adapting mechanical forces to improve performance of specific cleaning components, use of non-traditional solvents as cleaning medium beyond water. Finally the presentation is going to wrap with a discussion of energy efficiency laundry trends across the globe and highlight opportunities between the appliance manufacturers and chemical industry to together drive and shape these trends for global energy efficient cleaning technologies.
