(74f) Process Intensification and Coupling Effects for Efficient Conversion of Biomass Based On Ionic Liquids

It is well known that great progress achieved in material civilization for human beings in the last century was mainly on the expense of non-renewable global resources, which has brought lots of realistic problems such as energy crisis, environmental pollution and climate change. Hence, the exploitation and development of novel and cleaner technologies for efficient utilization of carbon neutral biomass have been recognized as one of the most predominated approaches for sustainable development of society. Therefore, efficient and direct transformation of abundant and renewable biomass to value-added bioenergy and chemicals is of great significance, which is in good agreement with the concept of low-carbon economy.

In this presentation, a series of novel and functionalized ionic liquids were reasonably designed and synthesized for efficient conversion of biomass through the investigation of the structure-active relationship between ionic liquids and the dissociation behavior of biomass. Furthermore, process intensification and coupling effects for efficient conversion of biomass has been realized by constructing reaction-separation systems of ligincellulose dissolution-in situ catalysis-product extraction/reaction and in subercritical fluids. Moreover, novel chloro-functionalized ionic liquids as effective catalysts for the conversion of cellulose to Levulinic acid will be reported.
