Academic career in the U.S. institutions would be one of the most exciting but challenging careers, especially for foreign-born scholars in science and engineering. Modern university administrators demand young academics for supremacy in research, funding, and teaching regardless of the amount of support they may provide. Academic research community is also rapidly globalizing and more competitive than ever. At the same time, industrial research support or collaboration is rapidly disappearing. In this forum, we will discuss some issues relevant to the sustainability in academic profession in this harsh environment.
