Particle jamming in the gap between a rotating blade and container frequently occurs in particle handling equipment. Jamming can be desired, as in case of particle mills or detrimental, for example in mixers and granulators. In this study, we present an analytical model to predict the onset of jamming for elastic particles. It was found that the onset of jamming can be calculated from the particle properties and surface interaction properties. Further, we present experimental results to compare to the model.
