The Legal Community and Government issued Policies, Regulations and Mandates drive both basic science and applied engineering research more so today than ever before. In particular, the EPA and progressive Energy Policy of each Administration has opened many new opportunities from material science to commercially viable solutions. This session will address these drivers for chemical engineering research which includes an update on carbon policy driving greater energy efficiency, low or no carbon technologies, and carbon sequestration. Newly identified issues include the confluence of extreme water shortages and water intensive industrial activities driving new mobile water treatment research and applications, EPA's lowering of perchloroethylene toxicity, and others. Abstracts are solicited for case studies from lawyers with relevant policy experience to engineers with experience in responding to federal grant announcements, venture capital, angel investor or industry based solicitations driven by these new Laws or Government issued Policies, Regulations and Mandates.
