In the previous study in our laboratory, a novel reactor integrating SPCP (Surface corona discharge-induced Plasma Chemical Process) and a ceramic filter was developed and its application to VOCs treatment has been studied. As a result, it was found that the reactor showed high decomposition ratio for various volatile organic compounds. However, energy efficiency is still lower than other VOC processing methods such as catalytic combustion method. In this study, to improve the energy efficiency of the SPCP reactor, the effect of various experimental parameters such as voltage waveform and frequency on the energy efficiency was examined in detail. In the experiment, trichloroethylene was used as a model VOC. The result indicated that the voltage waveform had slight effect on the energy efficiency. On the other hand, the frequency affected the energy efficiency considerably and lower frequency showed higher energy efficiency. In addition, as a result of the scale-up experiment in the axial direction of a SPCP reactor under the optimum voltage waveform and the frequency condition, it was demonstrated that the scale-up was possible without changing its energy efficiency.
