CACHE (Computer Aids for Chemical Engineering) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1969 to promote cooperation among universities, industry, and government in the development and distribution of computer-related educational aids for the chemical engineering profession. To this end CACHE is engaged in numerous and varied activities including: development of software; organization of conferences; commissioning of educational materials; dissemination of engineering and educational information; maintenance of an academic jobs board; sponsorship of awards; and leadership of new initiatives in engineering education. CACHE is staffed by a volunteer board of 28 trustees from academia and industry and its activities are supported through membership of more than 150 chemical engineering departments worldwide. In this presentation, we will review the activities fostered by the CACHE organization, update the latest developments, and suggest how others can become involved.
This paper is part of the Department Heads Forum. A panel of department chairs will share their experiences on topics important to department chairs. This year's main topic is process safety in the chemical engineering curriculum. In addition, a panel representing Federal agencies will discuss funding opportunities, and informational and update sessions will cover ABET, ASEE Chemical Engineering Division summer school, the annual report on the chemical engineering faculty academic salary survey and CACHE.
