(416a) AIChE Leadership in Safety

The Board of Directors believes that becoming the leader in Safety Education is an important way for the institute to serve its mission, its members, and our society.  This is particularly true with undergraduate education where the knowledge gap has, unfortunately, been made very clear, and where the potential to truly impact society by preventing accidents in these students' university and professional careers is extremely high.  We are working to leverage our already excellent services in the area of process safety to grow our impact and offerings to our members and to the outside world in a way that is self-sustaining in both costs and volunteer time.  I have been working with SACHE, CCPS, CEOC and many dedicated individuals to develop effective strategies to enable AIChE's leadership in safety education.  I would like to discuss with you our current plans and progress, gather feedback from you on these plans, and listen to your specific needs as department chairs.  I appreciate your time and effort in this important area.
