(253b) ABET Preparation and Visit At the University of Toledo

Authors

Lipscomb, G. - Presenter, University of Toledo

The Chemical Engineering program at the University of Toledo has held ABET accreditation continuously since its first accreditation in 1964. Our most recent comprehensive review was held September 25-27, 2011.

The evolution of our continuous improvement plan since adoption of ABET’s Engineering Criteria 2000 (EC2000) is described. A core component of this plan is Assessment Day.  On Assessment Day, the faculty meet as a whole to evaluate relevant assessment data and recommend action. The timing of these meetings, data evaluated, and follow-up procedures are discussed.

The preparation of evaluation materials is described as well. Hard copies of evaluation materials were provided on site but the material also was made available pre-visit through our department web site. Supporting material could be accessed by Educational Objective, Student Outcomes, or Course title to facilitate review. The faculty were provided a list of talking points pre-visit to prepare them for their discussion with the evaluator. The components of this one-page summary are described.

Finally, changes we plan to implement based on our most recent review are presented. These include the conduct of alumni and employer surveys as well as how we use social media.
