(140f) The Effect of CO2 Adsorbent to the H2 Production in Biomass Gassifier

Biomass gasification has become one of the most popular methods to produce biohydrogen.  Hydrogen yield has been proven to further increase by adding CO2 adsorbent into the biomass gasifier. The proposed CO2 adsorbent for biomass gasification system is Calcium Oxide (CaO) as it is converted to solid Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) as it reacts with CO2 in the gasifier. Due to its high density, the solid CaCO3 produced can be easily removed from the system and it will accumulate at the bottom of the gasifier. This paper highlights the study on the effect of CO2 adsorbent to the H2 production from the gasifier using CFD approach. The results show that the addition of CO2 adsorbent helps to increase the H2 production. The simulation was done for two different cases, which are gasification process with in-situ CO2 adsorption and without adsorbent.  The reaction temperature for both cases ranging between 500-900 0C. From the results obtained, it is observed that the addition of CO2 adsorbent does improve the H2 production by 12%.
