Gasification technology is an important process for the generation of sustainable energy and chemicals technologies from biomass.  Separation of oxygen from air to be applicable as gasification media through the biomass into gas conversion process has been recently highly recommended in order to enhance the need to produce high calorific value syngas with high concentrations of carbon oxides for more efficient energy production.  Oxygen separation from air is more efficient if these processes can be carried out at high temperatures as well as high pressures in terms of high oxygen fluxes production and less time and energy consumption. Perovskite based membrane are often used for oxygen separation.  However, due to the high temperatures and pressures applicable through the separation process and membrane poisoning being unavoidable, the membrane itself should be protected against chemical, mechanical and thermal stresses.

In this study, we developed perovskite membrane modules which are mechanically, thermally and chemically stable. The thickness of the membranes layer ranged from ca. 200 to 2000 µm. Using airs, the performance of these oxygen selective membranes are evaluated as a function of temperature, pressure and time. Membrane structure was evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscope and XRD.
