(348e) Kinetics of Pre-Hydrolysis and Kraft Pulping of Wood Chips

A fraction of hemicelluloses can be removed from wood chips before pulping and used as feedstocks to produce biofuels such as ethanol or butanol. Papermaking pulp is produced from extracted wood chips by the Kraft pulping process. It is known that pre-treatment of wood chips significantly accelerates delignification by the Kraft process. In this paper, we model the combination of pre-extraction and kraft delignification by defining combined reaction co-ordinates using the P-factor and the H-factor.
