Lee, S. - Presenter, Korea Institute of Science and Technology

Water scarcity is common problem in countries. Industrial development, population growth and urbanization have been accelerated water consumption. Global scale climate change makes the water shortage problem more severe. Water reuse can be a reliable alternative to supplying water for domestic and industrial purpose. Membrane filtration implemented technology is increasingly expanding its application to water and wastewater treatment in Korea. New water treatment plants are introducing MF and UF as core processes. Reverse osmosis is replacing distillation for seawater desalination, and considered as the final barrier to remove harmful contaminants from waste water to reuse. R&BD on water treatment in Korea will be introduced. Current research on water treatment of KIST will be also covered.
