Steam and carbon dioxide gas mixture having typical compostions of the gas stream leaving a stripping column in a carbon dioxide removal system based on absorption in a chemical solvent followed by steam stripping, is compressed in diaphragm and reciprocating compressors in order to recover the thermal energy present in it by condensaing the compressed gas in the condensing coils of the reboiler. A pilot plant has been designed with the compressor connected to the desorption column.
