Recent experimental studies (Utaka and Wang (2004), Murase et al. (2007), Li et al. (2008) have found that very small concentrations of ethanol in the liquid phase can increase significantly heat-transfer coefficients compared to those with pure steam.

Condensation of steam-ethanol mixture on a horizontal tube at atmospheric pressure was reported in Murase et al. (2007). In view of the possible application of steam-ethanol mixture condensation in power plant condensers where condensation takes place below atmospheric pressure, accurate experimental data at sub-atmospheric pressures become necessary. The present paper reports experimental results for steam-ethanol mixture condensation on a horizontal tube over a wide range of vapour-to-surface temperature difference and composition at sub-atmospheric pressures.
