Ferrate (Fe6+) is a very strong oxidizer that has been proved exceptionally useful in many important areas of chemical and environmental engineering as well as green energy production. For example, it could be used as an agent to heal wounds quickly or as a cathode to make rechargeable electric battery. It has been mainly applied in environmental engineering area, especially in water treatment. Despite its various advantages, ferrate has not been wildly used due to the difficulty in preparing it. This work is intended to develop a new easy method for preparing stable solid Fe6+-Fe3+ agent in a fixed bed reactor by using O3 and FeOOH along with KOH. The optimal conditions for Fe3+→Fe6+ conversion are being identified. The best conversion efficiency so far achieved is about 20%, which is satisfactory to its potential customers. In addition, the product is being investigated for its applications.
