The yeast extract plays a vital role in the production cost of lipids. In this work an attempt was made to optimize the yeast extract requirements in the media composition for lipid production by the oleaginous yeast with soluble sweet potato starch. In this approach response surface methodology was utilized for experimental design and optimization of variables. A mathematical model with the high R2 value was developed to show the medium composition and their interactions on the lipid production. The results shows that cost of lipid production can be reduced significantly by optimization.
