(247h) Ethics Education for Chemical Engineering Undergrads

Komives, C. F. - Presenter, San Jose State University

Ethics education is often based on a utilitarian approach, namely ? the best possible outcome for the most people. However, this does not address the need for making ethical decisions that impact individuals or conflicts in professional situations. An ethics course for undergrad chemical engineers has been developed that uses Aristotelian principles, laying a foundation for decision making based on the equality of humans based on their common nature. This presentation will introduce the ethics components for the Process Safety and Ethics course. Lecture notes and references for the lectures will be provided to all interested participants.
