High electrical conductivity, chemical stability, and low cost make carbon one of the most widely used materials for use in electrochemical applications [1, 2]. Here, we report nitrogen functionalized highly ordered mesoporous carbon. The nitrogen content and the nitrogen functional groups can be controlled by pyrolyzing polypyrrole at different temperatures [3]. Also, the pore structure of the carbon can be finely tuned by casting it on a well defined template such as SBA-15 [4, 5]. The properties of such nitrogen functionalized ordered mesoporous carbon with different nitrogen content and pore structures relevant to numerous electrochemical applications are presented.
