CFRP is now applied to build up a fuel storage cylinder for NGV(Natural Gas Vehicle) or FCV(Fuel Cell Vehicle). When the cylinder is exposed to a flame the inner pressure will rise up to continuously until its explosion as the CFRP is going to degrade into rupture. In this research, CFRP matrices with 100mm×100mm×8mm are prepared to measure the temperatures, ignition time, mass loss and heat release rates with exposing heat fluxes of 25, 50, 75 and 100kW/m2. The results are compared with a proper two-step pyrolysis model.
