Bifurcation phenomena in bioreactors in terms of both steady state multiplicity and complex oscillatory behavior are marked not only by the inherent nonlinearity of reaction kinetics but also by switching of reaction pathways due to metabolic regulatory processes. We show how variable multiple uptake patterns lead to complex multiplicities and periodic behavior.
