Metal organic frameworks (MOF), a new class of porous materials, have emerged as promising candidate for gas storage, separation membrane and chemical sensors. A lot of interest has been shown in these materials in past few years for various applications. However, MOF membranes have not been investigated in that much of details and there are very few reports in literature regarding their use as gas separation membranes.

We present a method to synthesize continuous MOF membranes. We use a modified secondary growth method to grow MOF films on porous substrates. Examination of the film using SEM shows that the crystals are well intergrown and preliminary gas permeation studies show good selectivity for H2/N2 and H2/CO2 gas pairs.
