This project is aimed at developing a low-pressure adsorption process, referred to as Carbon Filter Process, for separating CO2 from flue gas on carbonaceous sorbents. This process exploits a high selectivity of active carbon materials for CO2 relative to nitrogen at low pressures. Their selectivity decreases with increasing pressure. Therefore, the sorption stage takes place at ambient pressure, which removes the need to compress the flue gas. The sorbent regeneration can be accomplished either with steam or with vacuum. We shall present technical and economic data that allow for estimating the cost of recovered CO2. This process can also drastically remove mercury and other flue gas pollutants.
