Sowell, R. E. - Presenter, Law Office of Roger E. Sowell

California's Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 served as a blueprint for pending Federal legislation. Chemical engineers will have great opportunities and challenges in many industry sectors as a result of Global Warming laws. The presentation will briefly discuss the history and purpose of California's Global Warming law, the timeline and events for implementing the goals in California, the current requirements, then focus on impacts on industry sectors that are of importance to chemical engineers. Among the industries and issues of interest to chemical engineers are: Cap and Trade, Petroleum Refining, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Manufacturing, Hydrogen Production, Power Plants, Cogeneration, Solar Thermal Storage, Ethanol and other Bio-fuels, Cement Plants, Bio-mass Methane Capture, "Green" Building Materials, and Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS). The presentation will conclude with what to expect next.
