Electrokinetic Behavior of Micro and Nanoparticles: Fundamentals and Applications
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - 5:21pm to 5:39pm
We study particle electrophoresis and dielectrophoresis in curved microchannels. It was observed that particles are focused to either the centerline or the sidewalls of the channel depending on the concentration of the suspending medium. This phenomenon is a consequence of the negative or positive dielectrophoresis of particles induced by the non-uniform electric field intrinsic to curved channels. These distinct focusing trends may be used to separate particles by size in curved microchannels.
