Energy efficiency is being called "the first choice" for meeting US energy requirements: it can be the cheapest, cleanest, and quickest way to reduce dependence on foreign oil and meet climate change goals. It is good for business, the environment, and society. This talk will give an overview of the role that energy efficiency is expected to play in meeting national energy security and climate change goals. It will cover opportunities and challenges in terms of employment, infrastructure needs, and potential impact on the nation. It will discuss the role that the South East plays in these efforts in terms of industrial, transportation, buildings, and energy storage.
