This paper will present a novel linear programming tool to pre-screen potential configurations of a petrochemical complex during the conceptual and pre-feasibility study phase. It will include the impact of feedstock pricing, capital investment and product slate and prices on the economic feasibility. The analysis will include constraints of capital investment, market factors, and capacity limitations. The objective will be the maximum Net Present Value of the investment. The optimum selection, plus one or two alternatives, would then be recommended for the final selection based on the strategic goals of the corporations.
The tool can also be used in the Feasibility and Definition Stages of the project, once the scope, investment and pricing are better defined.
The paper will include examples of successful implementation.
